After writing last month’s article, I noticed a piece of Paul Graham’s essay was stuck in my mind for some reason. I couldn’t get it out so I decided to follow it to see where it led.
It was a quote from a scene in the movie titled “Being John Malkovich” where the main character’s love interest, a stunningly gorgeous slender brunette responds to the nerd-esque puppeteer’s declaration of his undying love for her, saying:
“…If you ever got me, you wouldn’t have a clue what to do with me.”
This statement gets thrown around so much, most would tag it cliché. But it underlies a fundamental part of human existence that often goes unexamined, partly because of a fear of uncovering the truth in our darkest desires or worse, the fear of losing it after having attained it.
